Hardiman Lecture Series 2025 comes to a close

In July, the Supreme Court hosted the final two lectures of the Hardiman Lecture Series 2025. 

On 3 July, Mr Justice Anthony Collins delivered a lecture titled "The Role of the Advocate General to the CJEU" which was informed by his time serving as the Irish Advocate General between 2021 and 2024.  Mr Justice Collins outlined the role and purpose of the Advocate General and the nature of their work as well as offering some insights on the inner workings of the Courts of Justice of the EU.  Mr Justice Collins is currently a Jugde of the Court of Appeal. 

On 10 July, Ms Justice Siobhán Phelan gave an informative lecture titled "Recent Developments in Immigration Law" which examined the significant changes in EU and Irish immigration and asylum law in recent months.  Ms Justice Phelan took the audience through the most recent EU Directive and six most recent EU Regulations in the field of immigration and asylum law which have wide impacts in the field.   The lecture additionally highlighted some of the associated jurisprudence of the CJEU, European Court of Human Rights and, of course, the Irish courts since the introduction of those changes.  Ms Justice Phelan is currently a Judge of the High Court assigned to the Asylum List.
