Hardiman Lecture Series 2025

Mr Justice Hogan delivering “The Remarkable Influence of the Irish Constitution on the Indian Constitution”

The Hardiman Lecture Series has returned to the Supreme Court this Trinity Term with a full schedule of engaging and insightful lectures delivered by members of the judiciary.  This year's series has been co-ordinated by Mr Justice Gerard Hogan and the Office of the Chief Justice, and features a diverse range of historic and legal topics.  The first lecture in the series, entitled "The Cuban Missile Crisis: the Apology and the Ignored Letter that Stopped Nuclear War", was delivered by Mr Justice Charleton on Thursday 19 June to a full audience in the Supreme Court.  The lecture was based on an article published by Mr Justice Charleton in the latest edition of the Irish Judicial Studies Journal.

The second lecture in the series, delivered by Mr Justice Hogan, took place on Thursday 29 June and was titled "The Remarkable Influence of the Irish Constitution on the Indian Constitution".  The lecture was attended by a number of legal professionals including law students, practitioners, Judges, and His Excellency Mr. Akhilesh Mishra, Ambassador of India to Ireland.  Commenting on the lecture, the Ambassador added his own reflections on the curious comparisons between the respective constitutions of India and Ireland.

The lecture series continues in the Supreme Court on Thursday 3 July and Thursday 10 July. The lectures are free to attend and open to the public.  Please note that the Hardiman lecture on 10 July will commence at the slightly delayed time of 4:45pm.
