Mr Justice Charleton judges Eoin Higgins Memorial Moot

On 4 February, Mr Justice Charleton took part in the judging panel for the Eoin Higgins Memorial Moot held at the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast. The Eoin Higgins Memorial Moot takes place annually in memory of the late Lord Justice Eoin Higgins between students of The Honorable Society of King’s Inns and students of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, Queen’s University Belfast.
This year’s case was based on a novel set of facts concerning the removal of a 19th century railway track in breach of a commercial lease covenant. In judging the moot, Mr Justice Charleton was joined by colleagues from the Northern Irish High Court and Court of Appeal, Madam Justice Denise McBride and The Right Honourable Lord Justice Bernard McCloskey.
The winning team from the Institute of Professional Studies (James Hunter, Laoise Murphy, Patrick Morris and Cormac O’Rourke) represented the respondent. The team from King’s Inns (Orlaith Cross, Beth Hammill, Fionn O’Callaghan and Jonathon Murphy) represented the appellant.
