From 10-11 April, the Chief Justice was pleased to attend and participate in a symposium organised to mark the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada. The symposium, which took place at the court building in Ottawa, brought together over 100 judges, lawyers and academics to collectively examine the challenges faced by it and other apex courts around the world and explore how these courts take up their responsibilities while promoting the rule of law and public confidence in the justice system.
The Chief Justice delivered a paper as part of a panel discussion which focused on ‘emerging issues in a cosmopolitan legal world’. This session was moderated by Hélène Buzzetti, political columnist, and also featured remarks delivered by The Honourable Louise Arbour, Senior Counsel.
