Chief Justice participates in symposium in Paris
On Friday, 29 November, Chief Justice O’Donnell attended a symposium at the Cour de Cassation in Paris titled ‘The Dynamics of Comparative Law – Civil Law and Common Law in an Era of Globalisation’. The symposium was held in honour of the late Basil Markesinis, a leading scholar and comparative lawyer.
The Chief Justice delivered a paper as part of a roundtable discussion titled ‘new technologies – overcoming the divide between continental law and common law’. Other themes explored throughout the conference included divergences and convergences between ‘the office of the judge in continental and common law’, the evolution of the notion of jurisprudence, and the role of comparative law and law as a tool of globalisation.
