Responding to your jury summons

What to do when you receive a jury summons

Anyone who is a citizen of Ireland and whose name is entered on the Register of Electors can be randomly selected for jury service (which is sometimes also known as 'jury duty').

Your jury summons, which you will receive by post, will tell you:

  • the date you should attend the court
  • the time you are expected to show up at
  • the court location where you need to appear.

Ignoring your jury summons

You must respond to the summons by confirming your attendance or  asking to be excused from jury service.

By law, you must respond to your jury summons. It is an offence to ignore your jury summons and ignoring it can result in penalties.
